Rental Licensing
Pilot Program
If you’re renting a 1–4 unit property in Brampton, you now need a Residential Rental Licence — in every ward.
Operating without it can expose you to escalating fines:
$750 (first offence)
$1,250 (second offence)
$1,500 (subsequent offences) Brampton
And the City’s own program materials warn that non-compliance can become a serious issue, including larger penalties tied to building code breaches.
What Brampton Requires
-

City licensing for all 1–4 unit rentals
Brampton requires landlord licensing for all one to four unit residential rentals citywide, ending ward exemptions and expanding enforcement oversight.

All Brampton landlords must complete a one time online education module demonstrating knowledge of safety, insurance, occupancy, and compliance obligations.
-

Ongoing Licensing Conditions

-

PROGRAM from 1/1/26 through 12/31/28
